FLL This Week

Please return completed permission forms to school ASAP.  The tournament is on Saturday December 13th at Runnymede Collegiate on Jane Street (as per permission forms).

To prepare for the tournament, we will meet at at the following times this week:
  • lunch time on Tuesday December 9th.
  • after school on Tuesday December 9th
  • after school on Thursday December 11th

FLL This Week


On Thursday Mr. Yasui, the robotics coach from Runnymede CI visited and introduced us to two of the student mentors who will be working with us. They are very experienced with FLL and we have already learned a lot from them.
This week we will be meeting at lunchtime in the library on Wednesday to work on the research project and on Tuesday and Thursday after school in Mr Hannah's room to work on programming and testing the robot.

    FLL This Week

    We will be away at Sheldon Wed, Thurs and Fri so our only meeting this week will be after school on Tuesday from 3:30 to 5:00 pm.

    Keep working on the independent research for the project portion of the competition and bring your info and ideas on Tuesday.

    FLL Update




    To date, the hardworking FLL team have:
    • built the components for the competition table
    • assembled the robot
    • chosen "blindness" as their research project topic
    • started assembling the table that will be used to test the robot
    • downloaded and installed the robotic software
    This week's meetings will be: Tuesday 3:30 - 5:00, Wednesday at lunch hour, Thursday 3:30 - 5:00

    This Week in Room 13


    1. Monday 17 March is St Patrick's Day and we're back at school.
    2. Remember to bring in your March memories to add to your art journal for when we have art with Anna (photos, brochures, stickers, ticket stubs, post cards, drawings etc).
    3. Four week small group novel study starts Mon 17th March. Each group will have its own spelling list. 
    4. Pirates! t-shirt contest entries due on Wed 19th March.
    5. Chess tournament Thurs 20th March.

    Late Breaking News


    • Mrs L-T received an email from our pen pals in Italy on Friday which said that they have put their reply letters to us in the mail.
    • No spelling the week of 16 December. We'll start 2014 with List 13 on 6 January.
    • Scrabble Club: we'll eat lunch in the library on Wednesday this week to celebrate. This will be the last Junior Scrabble Club meeting.

    PALS - Playground Activity Leaders in Schools

    Great news! King George PS will be starting up the P.A.L.S. program!

    P.A.L.S. is a playground leadership program for schools.
    It encourages all children to participate in activities during recess breaks.
    Objectives of the Program
            • Increase physical activity
            • Decrease conflict and reduce the incidence of playground bullying
            • Provide a leadership opportunity for students

    Announcements with more information will start 27 October.
    Application forms will go home 1 November and are due back on 8 November. 
    Training session for student leaders will be all day on 14 November in the gym.
