Ma Collection
Bonjour!
We have begun another exciting unit of our French program, Act-vie! It involves the study of collections and will culminate with your child displaying or presenting a collection to the class. In this unit, we will be identifying popular collections in French and reading about young collectors from across Canada. In an innovative game, we will estimate the size of some unusual collections.
Through discussion of museum collections, we will focus our own Canadian heritage. We will also examine places to store a collection and will identify some interesting collection items. Since we will be studying collections for several weeks, your child will have the opportunity to create a collection if he or she doesn’t currently have one.
Often the most interesting presentations are unique “found” objects, such as rocks, stickers, hockey cards and bottle caps. Other common collections include t-shirts, books, photographs and mugs. Any grouping of three or more items could constitute a collection.
If your child’s collection is valuable or fragile, perhaps he or she could bring in only one object, or photos of the collection. Please advise me if special arrangements are needed and rest assured that every effort will be made to ensure the security of these collections.
We will keep you informed as to when our presentation will occur.
To practice the new vocabulary students can go on Internet, search for Quizlet, and then type “Voici ma collection”. The site has the words and vocabulary necessary for this new French unit.
